A complete guide for an artsy week week in Paris – April 2019

ON MONDAY, DISCOVERING EMERGING GROOVY ART

Fondation Cartier, Jeunes artistes en Europe, les métamorphoses

261 Boulevard Raspail, 75014 4 April to 16 June 2019More

The famous Foundation is welcoming 21 young artists from 16 different European countries. They were invited to create cross-community dialogues, evolving towards common principles with their profoundly different symbols and scopes. There is a very positive point : the mediation booklet is extremely well-done. I found this exhibition so interesting! That art is indeed “young” and it really brings new visions of our society.

ON TUESDAY, DIVING WITH MERMAIDS

Galerie Perrotin, Jean Michel OTHONIEL, Oracle

8 Impasse Saint-Claude, 75003 6 March to 16 June 2019 More

The Perrotin Gallery is undoubtedly a Parisian reference. Most of the time, it exhibits great international in vogue artists. At the moment, the Gallery is presenting 3 exhibitions at the same time. It is an ideal place to enjoy art for free! Make sure to visit both spaces on both sides of the street. Jean-Michel Othoniel is one of our most renowned French artists. His artworks presented by the Gallery are just sublime in their colour and sparkling.

ON WEDNESDAY, ENJOYING A GIRLY JUICY ATMOSPHERE

Concept Store Club Jean Louis La Nuit, Clara CITRON, Pour grandir il faut choisir

66 Rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau 75001 11 April to 4 May 2019 More

In the basement of a new Parisian venue, opened by Xavier Clergery, the co-founder of Who’s Next salon, is exhibited the young and very talented artist Clara Citron. By expressing his emotional meanderings, the artist confronts us with the universal condition of tormented youth, full of illusion but tragically aware of painful realities. Her collages on mirror are presented in an exquisite, spacious, and classy atmosphere. I express my thunderbolt, both for the place and for the artist.

ON THURSDAY, PREFERING MINIMALIST ARTWORKS FOR MAXIMAL PLEASURE

Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, Monumental Minimal

69 Avenue du Général Leclerc, 93500 Pantin Until 29 April 2019 More

For this exhibition, which is ending soon, you have to leave Paris for Pantin, a very close city. The trip is short by metro, don’t worry. And then, what a pleasure to discover this place, so spacious, bright and calm! Iconic minimalist artworks are perfectly highlighted, what renders the overall vision cinemascope-like and extremely satisfying for the eyes-happiness.

ON FRIDAY, GOING OUT YOUR CONFORT ZONE

Centre d’art contemporain de Malakoff Regards sur la scène contemporaine syrienne

105 Avenue du 12 Février 1934, 92240 Malakoff Until 9 June 2019 More

This exhibition has been widely reported in the press and on the internet. How did the cruel events in Syria influence the Syrian artists here exhibited and forced to migrate? How do they question “home” notion ? How did the civil and terrorist war impact their art and their beliefs? That is the exhibition challenge. I believe that we must encourage and support the visibility of Arab art in such a world capital city, as cultural and international as Paris. In addition, the team members who work there are warmly welcoming you with a lot of explanations.

ON SUNDAY, REMEMBERING YOUR CONTEMPORARY ART CLASSICS

Fondation Louis Vuitton, La Collection de la Fondation, le parti de la peinture

8 Avenue du Mahatma Gandhi, 75116 Until 26 August 2019 More

The Louis Vuitton Fondation is a must if you are visiting Paris. It is one of the best places to see magnificent and very well documented exhibitions. Right now, there are two exhibitions in one. The first one shows a large number of impressionist paintings (Manet, Seurat, Cézanne, Van Gogh, Gauguin) and the second one presents a big collection of 70 gigantic contemporary artworks, gathered under the painting reinvention theme from the 1960’s to now. Don’t forget, in this Fondation, there are personal micro-visits, by which mediators precisely present to you the artworks during 20 to 30 minutes. It can be very useful, especially for contemporary art pieces!
